The name “pilonidal” is made up of Latin words that translate to “nest of hair.

A pilonidal sinus may become a small tunnel or sac within the skin, which tends to occur in the area between the buttocks, close to the coccyx, or tailbone. This sac may contain hair, debris, and dead skin cells.

What is Pilonidal Sinus?

It is a type of skin disease that involves hair growing into the skin, subsequently causing inflammation. Due to the prolonged inflammation, there might develop a channel/tract called a pilonidal sinus, which may get infections, pain, and accumulation of pus.
